Please, hold the bacn…
It seems as if yet another buzzword has slipped into the already overflowing bucket of marketable slop that pollutes my beloved industry.
“Bacn” is a word for all of the semi-solicited email you receive from the various accounts you hold with online companies and services. Unlink spam, it is legitimate email sent specifically to you; but it’s also email you probably don’t care to have. This is best illustrated with MySpace/Facebook friend requests or notifications, Netflix notifications, Amazon recommendations, etc.
c|net made a quick write up covering the origins of the buzzword and someone has decided to dedicate a website to the word (complete with a terrible domain name).
The first person to use this word around me is getting punched.
