PayPerPost Infects Facebook
It was only a matter of time before PayPerPost decided to jump on the Facebook App bandwagon in order to continue growing their evil ways. Now you can surely expect to see your friends getting paid to lie to you about products they are getting paid to endorse — right in your news feed. Yes, that’s right. Not only do you get spammed in your Email, now you can expect it in your Facebook account too.
The thought of this absolutely makes me cringe. Not only do I have to question the level of trust that I have with blogs I read, but I also have to with my friends in a private social network. This is an unfortunately consquence of Facebook deciding to “become more open“. Some may question the level of openness, however I am thinking I liked it just fine the way it was before. I am very passionate about keeping all forms of information open, but I am also passionate about keeping good things pure. Facebook finally gave us a social network that doesn’t suck. I question how long that will remain true unless the seriously review their policy on users advertising lying to other users.
I’m curious how the issue of disclosure is to be handled. Currently PayPerPost requires some sort of disclosure (a tiny link to an auto-generated policy is enough by their standards). Since Facebook user’s don’t have the ability to modify the footer links within their profile, does this mean that full disclosure from within the post is? What does that look like within a news feed?
