You Stay Classy, Coda

Well, today made it official that I am saying goodbye to my new friend Coda. As much as I want Coda to be my next code editor, it’s not. It wasn’t that it lacked in features, or that it was buggy. Simply put, I’m not a fan of the SubEtha engine. When I first switched to developing on a Mac, I found SubEthaEdit and it was my regular editor. However, once I found out how powerful TextMate was, I never looked back.

In discussions with other developers, we usually sum it up by saying that we want this to be our new editor but because it’s not TextMate, it simply can’t compare. We all truly enjoy seeing innovative solutions to an improved workflow. However, with the editor as a main focus of the workflow, it’s hard to ignore it’s limitations.

I look forward to watching this product grow to maturity. Although the features that initially sold my attention to the product (clips, one-click publishing, DOM inspector, built-in terminal) turned out to be rather limited in the end, they show volumes of promise for this app. I can honestly say that I enjoyed giving it a go.
