Your Random Historical Figure of the Day: Tatanka Iyotanka (Sitting Bull)
The Quick and Dirty
- Sitting Bull is arguably one of the most famous Native American chiefs in the history of The West.
- After years of fighting and slaughtering (on both sides), Sitting Bull had a vision of defeating the US army as they entered is territory to fight.
- Shortly thereafter the vision came true when Lieutenant-Colonel George A. Custer and about 240 of his men was defeated at the Battle of Little Big Horn (AKA: Custer’s Last Stand).
Be sure to check out the Wikipedia entry: Sitting Bull for more information. The West, a PBS documentary by Ken Burns, also offers a complete account of his life before, during and after the Battle of Little Big Horn. The PBS website has a great biography of Sitting Bull as well.
