The Quick and Dirty

1. He was known by most as an Academy-award winning actor who was well-received by legendary directors such as Alfred Hitchcock and Frank Capera.
2. He was generally accepted as the icon for the typical American good guy. This is showcased well when Bugs Bunny imitates Jimmy when doing his “Aw Shucks” routine.
3. He was one of the first major stars to enter active duty during wartime. He served for a total of 27 years, seeing action in both WWII as well as the Vietnam War.
